I am a Tapestry - I am Picard

by JJ Johnson

I am Jean Luc Picard, captain of my life
Ensign of my failing enterprise to drift through time and space
Warping my reality to be more than I was willing to become
Falling short of the command beyond the reach of my clenched hand
A fist closed to the possibilities my bleeding heart once believed in
While the echo remains trapped in my head, "I know I can be more"
How many chances I passed up when fear held on to me
My insecurity firmly locking in a course for tragic inevitability
My ship sunk swiftly into the empty abyss of my alternate reality
While the admiral I could have been is lost in space for infinity
I know I can be more, I feel it transporting my soul to the heavens
But the gravity of my choices weighs far too heavily
The shackles I have secured around my childhood dreams
Have raised a shield against the frontier of undiscovered hope
There are no second chances to repair this ship's dead engines
Once the self-destruct sequence finishes it's final count down
No force in the universe can carry me back home to Earth
I've lived the empty life of the ship's Ensign Jean-Luc Picard
But just like Captain James T. Kirk, I know I'll die alone

As a long time Trekkie, I really enjoyed this adaptation, JJ. Well done.
