Rainy Days in Springtime

by JJ Johnson

The cool wind carries another storm across my dreary skies
I miss your smile and the sweetness of springtime in the air
Your return will bring welcome sunlight to my tired fading eyes
To burn away the Winter's cold and reawaken this hibernating bear
The scent of honey that bumble bees carry on their wings
Stirs my soul to rise once more and risk their angry stings
For my hunger outweighs the pain that slumber held at bay
Now that March is finally here, it's time for Pooh to play
No sooner did I poke my head out of this damp old cave
I was struck by the howling horn of Aries thunder wave
Rolling over head like a stampede of hooves at lightning speed
Reminding my rumbling tummy the time has come for Pooh to feed

Author's Note: I saw a story on the news last night that Winnie the Pooh was based on a real bear. I woke up a short time ago dreaming about Pooh Bear, so I wrote a poem... JJ

Thoroughly enjoyable, well-thought-out phrases and an unforced rhyming make this a winner. Charming. Thank you!
