Do not write about love,
As each letter visits
these grouched whiteness,
so is some poet
howling in iambic pentameter
in varying vernaculars.
Nor write about motherhood,
or single yourself out, alone in it.
There is a rap song about it,
with fists up in a darkened
slam session,
the other fist around a stroller
shouting: represent!
You know as well,
thousands of immigrant poems,
shrouded by the localness of their rage.
Dragging their ghazals
like exotic wildlife,
to a jaded butcher behind a desk.

Instead surround your poetry
with little square windows
where goons hawk pills
and placebos.
Write about steamy affairs,
and 10 bullet points for wives
on How to Hold on to Your Man
In this Day and Age

the first and most important,
lesson on that list is [Next page]
