The Undiscovered Country

by Chris Sorrenti

it’s always existed there
just beyond my grasp
even before birth
as the muse imprinted her genes upon me

in early years appearing first as mirage
then by talent, slowly revealed itself more solid
warmly whispering, she
a destination far, but far from unreachable

enchanted isle in the distance
at the tip of fingers or light years away
depended which route I take
where passion’s peaks of accomplishment
rise amidst the fog of love and war
sandy beaches, coconut trees
I first set eyes upon through telescopic soul
with the help of spirits
already passed to those balmy shores
some, ghosts
while others, still Earthbound

a cacophony, sweet but determined, beckon
prod me to spread my sails
stretch high to flight upon the whispering wind
set forth to that undiscovered country
still attainable

and how shall the voyage be made?
in common sense tis obvious
for that seductive isle knows no bonds or boundary
as imprinted in these lines
one day I will reach her
