Spring Knocking by Kristina WoodhillWhen gophers begin
to plow our pasture's depths,
seeds advertise for wind and wing
billy goat next door
stinks to high heaven,
lucky stars, so far, so far
black cat races breeze
up and down naked ash tree,
head-down nuthatch startles
little neighbor boy
dog and ball,
each other's plaything
