Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

by Chris Sorrenti

sadly
this is where we say good-bye
please don’t burn out over me dear
we both could see it coming

despite what others say
you’ve been good to me
kept me calm in times of stress
that extra boost of energy
when I needed it most

thirty years together
and to think
how some said it wouldn’t last

no doubt
we’ve had some fun times together
my lips pressed tight to yours
late at night
first thing in the morning
amid walks outdoors concerts
and oh the parties
ever inseparable
over wine fine dining

makes one wonder
to see such a beautiful relationship
go up in smoke
but at $12.00/pack
I just can’t afford you anymore

what’s that? well OK
maybe we could try seeing each other
only on weekends

I got a good chuckle out of this, but I do find it an apt description of addiction. Well done, and good luck!

Been married twice. The first one lasted 20yrs and the current on 35yrs. It just takes patience! Sometimes more than others. Nice write!
