The Christmas Heart

by Meghan Helmich

Bulbous heart, heavy with joy,
swinging from the Christmas tree branch.
The gold and the brick red
bejeweled on each facet,
blinks in the light of our faces.
Our eager eyes watch it sway
in the breeze of the ceiling fan.

And what might live in my golden heart?
Something small with tiny hands.
A fairy in love; moving in love.
With only a thread to suspend it.
