Freedom Feigns

by Clara Mae Gregory

At what cost?
We weep in woe-be-gone days
Whilst the winds reign on the plains,
Dwindling on a divided highway
Where it finally wanes,
As Freedom feigns its way to
the divide where outworn wisdom
is eluded by a false Albatross
liquefying in lurid luxury soon lost.

An aptly penned haunting reminder of the times we live in, though especially applicable to the USA in light of the looming election.
