Grizzly

by Chris Sorrenti

Grizzly –

what you could do to me
I don’t wanna hassle
with those claws or jaws
having seen you run like a transport truck
an Ursus horribilis that climbs trees
fur that keeps you warm in winter
the perfect killing machine

Grizzly –

I’ve had nightmares about you
chasing me through a forest in B.C.
where civilization has no claim
I run in vain to no avail
you always catching up
just when I wake up screaming
on my knees

Grizzly –

I’ve seen your anger
fifty-six stitches in a row
thankfully just on television
I know you’re only trying to make a living
you get heavy when someone
trespasses on your territory
gets too close to the cubs

Grizzly –

I look up to you
yet hopefully we’ll never cross paths
except in another bad dream
why others would want to camp near you
is beyond my comprehension
think I’ll stick to watching you
in documentaries
