Arbutus (Madrone)

by Leonard M Hawkes

Diagonal orange
Among the gray-brown columns
That seem to hold up
The California sky;

Leaning, twisting
Reaching ever Heavenward,
And like his tall and somber brothers,
Simply seeking the light.

A fine description of the Madrone. What a gorgeous tree! It is like a torch among the conifers in Oregon.
