Along The Vertical Horizon

by Chris Sorrenti

Come, take what’s in my hand and understand
what it’s like to be born again
hop and skip down a real yellow brick road
chase white rabbits with Alice at the palace
along the vertical horizon

Many of our friends are already gone
with atomic numbers and chemical names
we can relearn the alphabet
laughing hysterically as we recite it together
they’re all waiting for us there

But don’t tell your mother where you will be going
don’t show your father the vertical horizon
they won’t understand
but they won’t miss you
because the vertical horizon is everywhere

So come, take what’s in my hand and understand
what it’s like to be a child again
we’ll laugh and sing about everything
as we rise to that playground in the clouds
you and me and all our friends
along the vertical horizon
