Monetary Man by Chris Sorrenti
No sense beating ‘round bushes
When you can’t buy coffee for a dime
A waste of time pointing fingers at someone
I’d only be looking at myself in the mirror
At night your catalogues call up from their pages
Try to seduce me with dollar signs pictures and words
And I just can’t say no and resist them
Distant days on the horizons of my mind
Bring back a carefree laughter
Reminding me of a time when things were simpler
Responsibilities nothing more than an upcoming chapter
In the story that’s unfolding as our lives together
Yet when you walk into the room
I know I’m still a rich man
Even if I’ve lost something to gain another
It’s not smart to count chickens before they hatch
But I’ve always been that way and you know it
Did you know also the other night love
In a dream within a dream
I saw a young man growing old
As every line that he would write turned slowly into gold
But times are hard and everyone knows
Dreams don’t always come true
So we’ll make the best with what we’ve got
Together just me and you
As all the while I will smile
Not telling of a greatness soon to be
