Dark Art Nouveau

by Nancy Ames

The playboys and their weary women,
languishing in the skyscrapers in their
newly risen cities, sadly missed having
their own little cottages beside the forest,
missed the climbing roses there and the
stands of irises beside the mirror of the
shallow lake, missed the songbirds, and
at night they missed the frogs croaking
on the lily pads in the misty moonlight.

Worthy capture of something I'm sure all city dwellers feel in one degree or another, no matter the place in time.

Forget 100 years ago! I want that now!
