Preach And Profess

by Philip F De Pinto

What religion
Do your breasts preach
Or profess?

Oh that I could reach
Them now and teach
Each a lesson or two

Not just to jut out there
And be made to be suckers

And when I say this
What God does the look
You just gave me believe in?

And if God led me to you
As a way to show me how cruel
The world or how beautiful you were
In those first few months
And how cruel in the last

How in my head and heart and brain
Their combination intertwine
As have me bawling out my shower head

You're one of the few people I read on a regular basis that consistently pulls off being self-referential in their work (whether or not you're referring to yourself, in this case, the "I" can be such a crutch so much of the time -- poetry or fiction notwithstanding). This is lovely. Only you could write a lovely thing about ogling boobs.
