Save the Children

by Megan Guimbellot

It’s easy to say
Save the children
When they aren’t
yours
Born in broken buildings
on broken streets
in broken neighborhoods// to women broken enough to live in
a building, on a street, in a neighborhood
as sad as this.

Show me the flower you grew with no sunlight
no shade
no water, no earth, no air.

Show me the flower you grew with the expectation that
it
should
just
grow.

You’re no gardener.

This is deep and poignant poem. Yes show me the flowers that grow in cement and not rich soil....Excellent write.

yes. powerful and concise; not a word out of place.

Killer last line following this very hard edged poem. Thank you.
