I Don't Have the Time

by Thomas K. Hunt

I can't talk to you right now
I must be on my way
It's nothing against you
I can't afford the delay
I'll have something to say my next time around
I'll look you up when I'm back in town
I know it's a shame
It feels like a crime
But right now my friend I don't have the time

I'll see you soon
That's a promise to you
When I make a promise you know it's true
I do what I can
I do what I do
There's no need of anything from you
We only live once
We will run out of time
Let's take what's left and enjoy yours and mine
It will have to be the next time around
Just the thought of it brings me down
I wish I had the time for more than a hello
I wish I didn't have to get up and go
You understand
I don't want to be late
You've been there before
I'm sure you relate

It was nice to see your smiling face
It took me back to another place
The innocence of our time
The way we read each others mind
The way you held my hand
The look of love in your eyes
I hate to keep it short
But I have to say goodbye
I don't have time to talk
I don't have the time to say what I want to say
We'll just have to wait for another time
We'll have to wait another day

I hate to say this but I'm running behind
I have no time for you
In the mean time you'll be just fine
For me I have to move right through
I'll see you again
Right now time is short
It gets shorter every day
I'll remember your smile
I'll remember it just this way
I'll be back in a little while
Sorry but I've got nothing to say
I don't have the time my friend
I really must be on my way
I hate to be rude but I'm rude today
Don't you remember
I just told you so
I really really need to go
There's no time for chat
I'll just grab my hat

I can't talk to you right now
I must be on my way
It's nothing against you
I can't afford the delay
I'll have something to say my next time around
I'll look you up when I'm back in town
I know it's a shame
It feels like a crime
But right now my friend I don't have the time

I'm pretty impressed you could keep up the non-stop, perfectly rhyming flow to this "run-on". Great technique for creating a hurry and flurry of a mind-on-the-go, self centered, apparent(but not real) good intentions. Well done.
