Evolution by Chris Sorrenti
Time to bring this metronome to heel
Till its heart beats but once a minute
As red rose speedway calls despairingly
With the wreck of countless lovers
Less blood spilled while coagulating
The stop watch button pressed once more
To avoid misadventure in the poetry system
And though there’s pain in the pleasure
There’s pleasure in the pain
Too many times the dream run away with itself
Like a wild bovine in a supermarket
Never stopping to examine today’s specials
The monkey sonnet turns itself
Into the free verse King Kong
As the ether hypodermic’s refilled
So let this metronome know a peaceful slumber
May its stasis be shared with stars birthing
Alien rainbows from which new glories will come
