Good Old Days

by Courtney B Chiles

Whatever happened to the good old days?
When you never had to worry where you might play.
When you walked the streets there was no fear,
But it is no longer like that here.
People are dying, children are missing,
Teens are doing too much kissing.
We used to be able to walk home alone,
Now we cannot even safely walk home.
It used to be that the world was a trusting place,
But now you cannot trust every friendly face.
How sad that our world has to be this way,
That we cannot even be safe for one day.
When the children are beaten it really is sad,
It’s really awful that there are parents this bad.
Teens are always bringing guns to school,
They think that this is the only way that they will rule.
What ever happened to the good old days?
When you did not have to worry about your life every day.

I love the truth and simplicity of this ode. it speaks volumes about our condition.

The USA took the way of humanism especially in our schools. This is where it has led. You write of a tragic truth.
