Drunk Driving

by Courtney B Chiles

He had too much to drink, but he got in the car,
No one knew that he went too far.
When someone gets killed by a drunk driver it just isn’t fair,
It hurts even more when you know they do not care.
It’s like stabbing the family with a knife,
When a drunk driver takes a life.
One minute your life is full of peace,
The next someone you love is deceased.
Do you ever wonder why people drink?
Do you wonder if they ever stop to think?
Do they know someone will die?
Do they know they can change a life in the wink of an eye?
When will people take control?
When will people stop putting their heads into a hole?
Losing someone is never fun,
It is never easy to lose a loved one.
When you lose someone it causes so much pain,
The family and friends will never be the same.
Sometimes the families can fall apart,
It feels like they have a hole in their heart.
When someone dies it is really sad,
When they are killed by a drunk driver, it makes you mad.
We try to stop the pain, but it won’t go away,
At this point all we can do is hope it leaves one day.
Maybe one day we call all be thrilled,
When no one else will get killed.
Maybe one day we will be able to say,
That the work can be free of drunk drivers in every way.
Right now all we can do is hope,
Hope that someone will not act like a dope.
When a drunk tries to get away,
They should have to pay.
Just remember if you roll the dice,
You just might have to pay the price.
