I Want Billie Holiday to Sing Me to Sleep by Britt ZimmermanTonight
Feels like San Diego
Minus the salt in the air
And jet planes hum
through the clouds
I'm taking in deep breaths
Savoring the winter air
Listening to the quiet
Of the cars on the far off highway
It's starless
with white
And grey clouds
And the air weighs heavy
In my lungs
I want Billie Holiday
To sing me to sleep
And dream me into your arms
But I'm ok,
Even though I'm not
And the rhythm of the wind
In the trees
Is comforting enough
At least for now
But the leaves keep falling
In the breeze and it
Breaks the silence
And It's a bit of an eerie sound
And they fall quite often
Like shooting stars
Or wishes and dreams
To become rotten
To decay into earth
To be born again in the spring
It's the nature of all things
Isn't it?
We crawl
Then we walk
But we fall
And fall often
So I'm ok,
Even though I'm not
And I want Billie Holiday to
sing me to sleep
And dream me into your arms
Under the grey blue
Blanket of night
Winter never lasts too long
And spring will come again... 01/11/2015 Posted on 01/11/2015 Copyright © 2023 Britt Zimmerman

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 01/15/15 at 02:58 PM a most glorious ode and jazzy and bluesy, and why wouldn't it be, given Billy Holiday is one of my faves along the jazzy and bluesly lines. she can sing me to sleep anytime. congratulations on POTD. |
