Earth Clad

by Alison McKenzie

My earthen eyes
Prefer the darkness,
That time of night when
What I see is the solitude
Of an otherwise sleeping world,
My thoughts my own,
The wind blowing for me,
The coyotes howling
At a moon performing
Exclusively for my art.

I have come to love,
To find peace in my own skin.
Perhaps if I can learn to
Connect with my own heart,
The sky clad warrior
Will not be far behind.

these are two wonderfully composed stanzas. an ode cohesive to the core and with that added touch of finding my own peace in its skin and to the heart of which I can certainly connect.

Beautifully written symbolism. Sharp images. Emotional intent.

powerful words and awareness here...at one with one's self, existence, world...the movement from the first half and its powerful stillness (for lack of better term) - and the end realization of more to come...very nicely done...
