In his heart
now he understands
why the woman in white
came to visit
when he was only five
no loving smile
as in introductory arrival
but days before
now a serious demeanor
as she pulled open the scroll
commanding him to look
though frightened by her appearance
and not yet of schooling
no words could he read.

All these years wondering
what was inscribed
what she meant him to do
and now at thirty-three
through experience and wisdom
the pieces of the puzzle
have slowly come together
each time he puts pen to paper
for how can one learn to write
if not first to read?

“Child, one day
you will hold dominion over others
and that gift will come
from the power of words
Heaven sent
through this angel messenger
written upon the scroll.”

Author's Note: The ‘woman in white’ is one of the more consistent supernatural occurrences. It is said that the angelic variety appears only to children, and to some even speaks; her visit heralding great talent and/or wisdom in the child.
