As If She Were Still

by Philip F De Pinto

The mind was not so narrow
The thought of she and I
Could not bide side by side

Of course you say now
We're old hats at this and that
At looking up and saying
Hon - did you feel a drop
Or several
And I'd pretend not
To feel a one

And oh the charm
Of fresh baked clouds
Neath which the sole figure is sodden
Feigning not to feel a drop
As if she was still
Biding by his side

Absence is such a strange lie.
