Beyond Rosemary and Thyme by Chris Sorrenti
for Bonnie...
To a special friend
Measured in miles you’re far away
But measured in thoughts
You’re close today...
...of this
perhaps we are getting too old
though continue to do so just the same
each foray into the zone forwarding the precognition
of who you, me...we...truly are
a bath together at four in the morning
to cleanse our sins...
defile the monster that greedily demands
its pound of your flesh
no amount of chemo seems to satisfy
the drink, smoke mingling with
poulet à la Rosemary
an ordered movie on TMN never watched
our unscheduled John and Yoko
in celebration of what we hold most dear
begrudgingly protest cannot control
amid eclectic audiotape
you assembled seventeen years ago
Barbra Streisand to Led Zeppelin
as if knowing this day would one day come
capturing more than lyrics and instrumentals
the defiance of our past...present
under the turbulent flag of pre/post millennium
...1987...
a continent apart
yet concrete and abstracts solidifying
settling in to define this future legend...
a separation for me
new life for you
that would also end in divorce
piggybacked on the theory of chaos
brought us together
mingling in a neo Dada soup
Shakespearean tragedy
that we might never have happened
could indeed still kill us
so prepared for the thrust of carpe diem
invincible till then...when
far from perfection
as neither of us pretend to be
though recognize perfection takes on
unexpected mathematical equations
our collective mind and body
as good as it gets
tumble dried in the universe’s calculator
where we may never marry
yet have done so just the same
no matter the premonition
life…and death brings to us
for better or worse
I will always love you
for who you, me...we truly are
of this...
