damaged goods

by Chris Sorrenti

all around us
the evidence mounts
of two words prevalent
in the globalized mind
our flags though
faded   jaded   tattered
flying bravely at full mast
above all adversity

of wounds turned inside out
in conversation   body language
some hardened into scars
others partially camouflaged
beneath scabs
still festering
from the everyday bump and grind

and yet
for those of us who choose to stay
play out our odds   and ends
amongst the fray
we rally   rise   and survive
assert ourselves against the test
to fight again   and again

Help! I think I've been globalized...

This is wonderful. I love the effect created by double spacing in certain lines. "Play out our odds and ends." Nicely done.
