Have I Become Famous

by Thomas K. Hunt

Have I become famous?
I died yesterday
I left without knowing
Will I be discovered today?
Will I go down in history, or just be yesterday's news?
Will they read my life stories ?
There're so many to choose
Pages of my travel
My journey through my mind
Laid out in black and white
It's there for all time
It's really worth the read
After all, it's all about me
Read through the lines of my life
I'm sure you will agree

I should be famous
Now that I've joined the society
Did it take my death to make me a celebrity?
Will they hand my name down?
See my imagery without sound?
Will it still be worth the read a hundred years from now?
I was never a rock star
I was just a simple man
Poured out my thoughts on paper
I hope you read them when you can
You'll see what I'm talking about
The word is bound to spread
Generations of smiles with my thoughts filling their heads
This poet's wish
This poets dream is that you find yourself in the pages in between
Feel the life, then just pass it along
Children of children will be singing my songs

Have I become famous?
I was so hoping to
You may be famous just from me knowing you
It's okay, put me on your shelf
Read me once, then pass to someone else
It never happened in my living years
Though each word was my blood, sweat, and tears
Some small praise but never worldwide
Will it happen now that I've died?
I should be famous
Read my life, and you'll know why
Conceived for your reading pleasure
Just sit back and lend an eye
Your distant cousins will feel the same way
In a far off year on another day
They'll hear the words, and they'll know my name
They'll read my feelings and feel the same

Have I become famous?
I died yesterday
I left without knowing
Will I be discovered today?

A fine tongue-in-cheek look at some writers' hopes for the afterlife, or life after death. Thanks for this.
