six summer haiku by Jim Benz
middle of summer
and me sitting here
mourning a dead fly
July 4th
I've scratched my ankle
until it bleeds
a bird's nest
on top of the arbor
surrounded by grapes
more rain
the mop in my basement
smells like mildew
cool summer day
a cardinal on his lilac perch
takes a shit
little spider
floating in front of my nose
summer doldrums

Posted by A. Paige White on 07/11/14 at 03:16 AM I just can't relate to this one. I recently bought a hand held big zapper that looks like a tennis racket. It was succinct though.

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 07/11/14 at 02:27 PM a beautiful and thoughtful haiku, Jim. I however never mourn flies, given none perish on my watch, given I am no warden as to contain them, but release them of their own cognizance through the screen raise like a curtain.
Posted by A. Paige White on 07/11/14 at 08:00 PM I love the second one!!! Purely because of how I answer my kids when they ask what I'm doing with "mildewing" it's kind of a tradition. If your mop were in the attic I'd have been rolling laughing for sure. Anyway, love it.
