A Love from Another Time

by Thomas K. Hunt

There's a hole in my head where I see her eyes
It's down a tunnel on the other side
I dream of her every night
In my sleep she's in my sight

There's no touch but there's feel
In my slumber it feels all too real
Her whispers fill my ears
Echoes of laughter through the years

Every night within my sleep
Into my mind she loves to creep
Her face as I saw it last
Faded smiles from my past

My heart shines in the dark of the night
It's the only time when it feels just right
Her face aglow and whispering my name
In waking hours it's never the same

There's a hole in my head where I love to go
A place that I only know
Hidden deep within my mind
Lives a love from another time

I feel for you, brother. I know this tale all too well, the refuge we take in the holes in our heads, and I would add in the holes in our hearts when love has vamoosed, perished in our embrace, we are thus cast into the null and void.
