Watching Sprouts Blossom by Thomas K. HuntBlue Herons calling out
Greet the break of dawn
A new born white tail
Suckling a lying fawn
A barking dog spreading his scent
A warning boundary
A line of his defense
The smell of the river
The sound of its flow
Gentle waves caressing the banks below
Another day on the river
Born and bred in its way
The river flows through us
Let it flow for one more day
A slow cruise to somewhere
You can feel it in the air
There're spirits here among us
Some are already there
Anticipation is part of the cruise
A belief in a belief
The right to choose
In waste high level
Toes buried in the sand
Wearing your warmest smile
Wading with the best of friends
Baptized by this water
Out beyond this sacred beach
We talk about the party
We practice what we preach
Loving and sharing
Enjoying the way it should be
Watching sprouts bloom on the family tree
Soul mates by the dozens
Under the shining sun
Immediate family, friends and cousins
Watching the river run
Known blessings of where we are
Under the comfort of a blanket of stars
We drift ourselves home
Back with smiling eyes
Say goodnight and dream
Wake to the river sunrise
We show up in our bodies
We've paid the dues
Our souls will follow
They're all a paid up too
When the last one moves over
The next one appears
The love of tradition year after year
We'll meet at Potter's
Lay back and have fun
Drink to ourselves until we're done
Share the laughter and shout out cheers
From time to time there's tears in the beer
History in the making
Teaching what is known
Caring for the crops
Back to the first seed sown
Loving and sharing
Enjoying the way it should be
Watching sprouts blossom on the family tree
