Iraq Dream

by Jon-Jacob F Deal

Years ago, I had this dream:

I was in Iraq
In the spacious dining room
Of an elegant restaurant
High in a skyscraper;

The walls were tinted glass.

In the pink-orange sunset light
I looked down through them and saw
The tan architecture of a peaceful city
Modern cars gliding silently;

People going about their lives.

A young boy was sitting next to me
At the long table
And I told him that
It wasn't all that long ago that
I had wished, but never dreamed
That a moment like this
Would one day be possible.

And in his smiling face
I saw that the faces of the dead
Were also smiling back at me
And I was happy.

Quite the moving poem in light of recent events.

What a great capture of past, present and potential future. I will never throw stones at glass walls; but I would leave a note under a brick. "I hope all the best for you and those you love" To you forever I wish peace. ~N
