Untethered

by Meredith C Hartwell

Fairfax and Silver Spring.
That concert in the city.
A week up by the lake.
A weekend upstate.

DC and Raleigh and Savannah.
Tampa and
karaoke in Orlando.
New Orleans, just shy of
Mardi Gras.
(I still caught some beads.)

Texas for a few nights,
a week in Phoenix,
the Grand Canyon,
Sedona.
San Diego, the California Coast,
San Jose, Santa Cruz, San Fran,
and Marin.

Eugene, Oregon before Portland.
Seattle for a cup of coffee.
Hiking Snake River Canyon and
learning Idaho offers
much more than potatoes.
An ice storm in Wyoming.
A week with family in Denver.

Omaha, Chicago, and Detroit.
Niagara Falls, Buffalo,
and my second home of Rochester.
Seeing my alma mater.

Kingston for work,
Newark, on a job,
Boston, on a whim.
Baltimore for a wedding and
a long visit with old friends.

A few bars,
a half-dozen parties,
and a couple first dates.
Dinners and dancing,
conversations and songs.

Since you've been gone, love,
I guess you could say
I've let myself go.

Author's Note: Oh, the list poem, my old fallback. Not in love with the last line, though. Thoughts? Line deleted. Thank you for your input!

Ditch the last line. I really like "I've let myself go."

A travelogue in brief! Been to most of those places myself (with family). Yes, let the last line go.

I tend to agree with Kristina. I think it says a lot about those who travel a lot. Sometimes I think there may not be a home for us even when we pretend there is. We see a lot of places along the way, some of which look nice. Like the Snake River Canyon I lived only 30 miles south of the west end of it for a while and loved it even when the snow came. Yes, the travelers lament.
