Kaleidoscope

by Jared Orlando

The world
is not an oyster.
The world
is indeed
not mine.
But this won’t stop me
from crushing the Earth
into brown, sandy specks.
The sky falling
into crackled blue glass.
Everyone and
everything
in pieces.
I’ll take a handful,
put it up to my eye
and a once
puzzled landscape
is now my kaleidoscope.
And as I turn it,
I smile,
as it will never be
clear to me,
but at least
I can try
and make it
beautiful.

Interesting new twist to an old device and the concept that drives it. Well done!
