Male box

by Steve Michaels

The brown paper package
sterile priority mail label
opened I find

my shirt inside, laundered
the book - not dog eared - perhaps
ironed and vacuumed
removing errant DNA

no note.

the lack of you
is you

I keep coming back to this one. It's almost like a Chinese laundry visit where everything in the bag(regardless)got washed and starched. Those last three lines sum this person up in so few words - almost as though they were never there.
