four Spring haiku

by Jim Benz

early spring
the neighborhood crows
have found a carcass

cars in the ditch
because of the wind
Nebraska freeway

a woodpecker
chipping ice off the suet
April snow

Winter's end--
shoveling the steps
in my flip flops

Can't help myself--that anthropomorphosis thing has struck again; then realized how slowly my cat moves these days and had to leave it there...

Pointed sign of spring.

Ahhh...the ubiquitous crows...and sea gulls, even though I live far inland. I witnessed this very thing the other day, and saw my first robin today. Happy spring, Jim.
