Mind Over Mind by Chris Sorrenti
having put madness to flight
what will you do to ensure it stays away?
the dog of your wild years sewn up of its wounds
what will you do to ensure it doesn’t go astray?
your gate to the world wide open once again
amongst the winds of change
that never ending storm pattern
mind over matter
mind over mind
always in the balance - the brain’s two sides
and when one creates emphatically - the other goes to sleep
dreaming of tomorrow’s calculations
having brought your dark side out
what will you do to ensure it remains dancing in the light?
knowing all your weaknesses - which buttons to press
your window of vulnerability wide open once again
that steady revolving door of circumstance
mind over matter
mind over mind
in time the scabs all fall away - left only the immaculate scars
and as each scar is a different shape
so each one sings a different tune
having put the genie back in its bottle
what will you do to keep it locked inside?
you've had your three wishes - squandered them away
and now you're no better than anybody else
mind over matter
mind over mind
playing chicken - cat and mouse - roller blades on ice
in the end it all boils down to how much you fear yourself
matter over mind
mind over matter
matter over mind
mind over matter...

Posted by Kris Mara on 03/22/14 at 12:48 AM you delve into that haunting madness (and sometimes misleading line to walk) head on, pulling that darkness out and holding it accountable in the light. In reading this a few times here, I hear different sides each time -- all of it ends up encapsulating the strength and weakness, dark and light struggle...reading as a mantra for keeping that "dog of your wild years" in check... I find it reflecting not only addiction, but that darkness some (often those with creative souls) need to learn to resist or function within... anyway... thanks for sharing, a great read as always, Chris. |
