Coward

by Clara Mae Gregory

Xanthic pallor
stains the face
As the light
liquifies inside
the liquored liver
and darkens
the coward’s heart
As it hardens
into its last beat
And the brain’s
gray matters
No longer

I just love this as a description of cowardliness. Its beautifully written in form and flows magically!

a powerhouse usage of language, which for a poet is the only fuel that can ever truly launch a poem into the ether. And this one, Melanie, gets off the ground and into that great big sky and and beyond cant you just hear all the clouds assemblied there, applaud, such a launching as they will all feast in and gather infinite lessons from?
