the poison pair

by Maria Francesca

crazy Kristy's had enough.
angry Eddie's had it, too
so every night
the same old fight -
they bark
then bite
then scream
then screw.

sometimes, though, they change it up;
they get a little bored, it seems,
and on these nights
postpone the fight:
with great delight
they screw
then scream.

then he stomps out and slams the door
and says he's never coming back.
she calls her mama
and shares the drama
and swears this time her bags are packed

but tomorrow it all begins again:
the struggle
the puzzle
the shouting
the sex.
it's the life they enjoy
and except for the noise
I would bless them both,
'cause what the heck?

but the sobbing
the shrieking
the bed springs squeaking -
it pounds through my ceiling
'til four a.m.
I'm sleepless
I'm pissed
I'm all in a twist -
it comes down to this:
it's me
or it's them

so I hope they enjoy these arsenic cookies -
the third batch I've made
and I think they're my best-
in prison I'll rot
but at night, on my cot,
then maybe -
just maybe -
I'll get a night's rest.

Made me laugh, this commentary on human nature.

LOL! Good one Maria. Dark humor at its best. The ending nicely reflects the title. Adds to favorites.

Loved this, especially the ending, which I did not expect! This seems to be a sport of some type for people in their twenties, I know so many of them! Thank God I can't bake!
