2. Caged In

by Uriel Tovar

It’s been five nights in this cell
Bound at night
Placed inside this tightly
Hugging white jacket
Comforting me
Keeping the nightmares at bay
Away from my broken mind
They tell me it’s for my well being
But I know it helps them sleep at night as well
A method of securing piece of mind
While minding their manners
Telling me that I am crazy that it’s
All figments of imagination
Swirling in my head
Manifesting through my actions
That with these meds they will stop visiting me
That with these meds it will all stop
And it will start to be good
And I won’t have to worry about the shadows
And I won’t have to worry about the ancients awakening
And as they are sleeping now so will I
With the aid of these pills
And if I take enough I will guarantee them
Never to awaken.

Must be a terrifying aspect of mental illness. Your words chill!

I agree with Quentin. What a horrible place to be - well written and compelling.
