chaos on the field

by Gail Wolper

just in the nick of time you intercepted
just when i thought we were out of options
the running back kept going up the line
you called offsides
i called an interception
o we couldn't go on but we did
surprise you called time out
but it was a safety badly needed
it was snowing and slippery all over the place
on the field but i pulled it out of my--
yet the football became totally unmanageable
when you punted it away
the kicker had a bad knee but he made a field goal
the fans going crazy
and they called time
your lineman got a concussion
he was carted away
number 35 threw it out of bounds
on a quarterback sneak
which you of course
took as a blitz
45 yard line
its still snowing
we are out of options

Oh, we are never out of options. Those available to us just might not bring the result we wish to see. Fortunately or un the world does go on and we must somehow face it and make the best choices for ourselves.

Whether referring to an actual football game or not it says a lot about options, if it is winning or losing options do run out. In life we can win if the option is God in Christ. We win regardless of circumstances. A significant analogy to life.

Although I mainly only watch Canadian football, I definitely feel the shared enthusiasm here. Excellent allegory for Love.
