a flight to Rome

by Peter Humphreys

is this what heaven
is like?

as we rose
from darkness
into light
mist and
deep cloudiness
earthbound
gave way
with little resistance
to dark sinister
impenetrable clouds
reluctantly
surrendered
to the deepest
blood red
orange
tangerine
lightest green
almost azure
endless skies

the sun
blinded
the unprepared

I slept
awakening
to blue white
snow on the
Apennines
and motley
hills, woods
and fertile plains
ending in sand
where the Tiber flowed

is this
what heaven
is like?

I so want to get back to Europe again before too long or I will not make it at all. I love to read about this trip and what it might lead to. Take care!

Ditto, George. The earth from an airplane - you paint your trip with so many colors, dark and bright, I can feel your breath taking. May the rest of your trip be as amazing.
