black and white butterfly

by Amanda Bullington

the butterfly
tiptoed across my sandy feet
tickling me with teeny-tiny
gray and black antenna
as it felt
its path

drawn in perhaps
by the warmth
of the sun beating down
or maybe the soft silkiness
each sand grain made
in connection with
my skin

scuttling up and down
the boulders of my toes
from right to left
then left to right
again

unfazed by the wind
the midday heat
or the coconut trees
strewn along the shoreline

yet touched perhaps
as was I
by our momentary
unity

Very delicate, this, and inviting - quite a lingering touch.
