just because by Amos Last
just because
so tuesday
salad was fresh red green
lettuce cucumber champagne grapes
scallion mince and feta
with a tahini ginger lime dressing
aged as it happens for an hour or two
while i
fresh shaved
scented lavender
in my new brooks brothers outfit
waited for someone and chicken
never came
i imagine
it is possible
there were whispers in your ear
the curry reconsidered
sometime in the afternoon
in the spirit of quit
while you’re ahead
but rather no
i would choose to believe
that you will honour yourself
and me
settle our accounts
with a polite explanation
of how your tuesday went
if not the days after since
one day soon
and then
i hope
you may find your way
in peace
back home
again

Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 10/20/13 at 12:49 PM the idea that a jilt would result in a poem as lovely as this, is certainly ironic. and yet from where would we the jilted expect to see beauty stemming from, but from hurt and disappointment. |
