God's Coffee Cup

by June Labyzon

God’s Coffee Cup

100 pounds of Gorgonzola cheese
spongy blue green crevices, sharp and pungent
burning blisters onto the roof of my
mouth.
100 unknown words steeping
onto the page on this two-cup coffee day
burning blisters unto vellum.
100 pens scratching, pulling, tantalizing
sentences into phrases of dissension.
100 angry young men prophesying powers
of fanaticism, leaving females weak.

I love, the 100 pens pulling scratching tantalizing sentences into phrases and dissension. My pens no longer pull or scratch or tantalize, in fact they have lost all function, given they are all dried up, before they had a chance to retire and collect their pension. I suppose I pushed them too hard and too long and all that is left for a slave driver to do is at least give them a proper burial, save I haven't the heart or the will to do any such thing.
