Messed up nursery rhymes

by Shannon McEwen

Turn off the stars and get rid of the moon
Then let’s pretend you’ll be back soon
That the fork hasn’t run away with the spoon
The man isn’t crying, while the cow hums a tune

Dim the lights and slowly dull the pain
Tell me the worlds not surely gone insane
That mother goose has nothing left to gain
Except the rainbow at the end of the rain

Feed the constant hunger and ignore the fear
Then tell me endless tales as you hold me near
Whisper sweet nothings until the cobwebs clear
Until laughter creates only the happy kind of tears

And when inevitably it all goes terribly awry
We`ll ever do our duty and inevitably try
Between the lines and the days gone by
Do we applaud or wait until the end to cry
