Liquor and Lace

by Megan Guimbellot

My kohl-rimmed eyes meet yours across my gin martini and I’m lost in the liquid gaze that meets mine from the far corner of the crowded dance floor
you swirl me in a cocktail of suits and silk.
I feel the weight of the night.

You are the big band swell of music and the balmy air in the narrow streets
As much as you try to hide secrets behind the jaunty tilt of your fedora I feel you out
Like braille in the deepening light I anticipate your movements

I invite you via lash-blink
to strip me down to garterstockinghighheel weightlessness

Turn the record on, crank up the volume, and tip me onto satin sheets.

Well, that should do it! This is bright and doesn't beat around the bush. Thanks!
