Not Just a Stone

by Gilly Wigley

I am important
special
for I have been selected
chosen
out of the millions and billions alike
those that surround me
I
have been chosen
shape
color
texture
size
I could care less why
for I was chosen
picked
carefully inspected
rolled around
tumbled
fondled by flesh
delicately pocketed for safe keeping
to be perfectly placed atop a mantle
or perhaps snuggled up in a basket
in someone's living room
perfectly placed to spark the senses
fond memories of a place so dear
rustic aromas and natures lullaby's
yes I
was chosen
for I am not just a stone
I am the beach
I am the lake
I am the wind
I am the fresh blueberries
I am the dunes
I am the campfire
I am the the pine
I am the foxfire
I am the the northern lights
I am
Picture Rocks National Lakeshore

08/08/2013

Author's Note: Just got back from a camping trip to my favorite place in the US, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (U.P. of Michigan). Hadn't been there in over 10 years, so I was feeling very nostalgic the whole trip.

My husband tends to bring back a rock from trips we take. I see he's not alone. I like this a lot.
