Caught Between Floors

by Kristina Woodhill

Little Dorrit's
Circumlocution
Office
Relocated
To Caldwell
This week
Small town USA,
Cleveland Blvd
Under construction;
Triangulating
Three buildings
That afternoon
I pinged off
County court house
Where passports
Can only be applied for
Using money order
Or check,
ponged
To my bank
Where money orders
Are not available,
Sent bouncing across
Dusty, bump ridden Cleveland
To Penny Wise
Money order provider
Who only takes cash,
Lobbed me back
To bank for cash,
Served fast and low
Once again
To PW for the prize -
I held it in my hand!
Up and over
Final net
Back in passport's
Court
A 6 foot by 4 foot
Elevator squeezed
My mind tightly
Between floors
like a human panini
Spurting me out
Just ahead
Of silent giggles
Sidling close to hysteria
By Room 246;
One money order
Cannot pay
For two transactions
Dear Dept of State
Canyon county
You should learn to share
Oh, PW, I knew you too well
And 3's a charm
We split that MO
Into 2 pieces
Tossed 25 smackers
Up in the air
Took the paper 110
By its corner
Threw the bird
At a craven elevator
Named Poe
As I flew
Up the stairs
Landing my last shot
Before Rita ref
Could call
Closing time at 4,
And game!

the title caused me to think of the film 'Being John Malkovich' :) Good one, this.
