The Ballad of Seth and Rose by Linda FullerA slash of lipstick cut her face in two
reminding him of squirrels he had shot
their gutted corpses readied for the pot
souls held to bodies with a flimsy glue
Her fragile lids were coated cobalt blue
her lashes heavy with a bristled clot
a minty mouthwash masked a subtle rot
of tooth, he knew she didn’t have a clue
what fate awaited her and then he struck
a pose, a bargain, thirteen brutal blows
then listened as she took her final breath
He really hadn’t meant to go amok
but sense deserts a mortal in the throes
of teenage angst and moonshine mixed with meth.

Posted by Jim Benz on 07/28/13 at 11:26 PM Brilliant. And I mean that sincerely. The content fits the form beautifully, and it takes my breath away. I've missed you Linda. Where've you been? |
