Those Stars Died Years Ago by Megan GuimbellotWhat feels the most like you is the starlight on my cheekbones
because those stars are already burned out// my landscape is lit by the past tonight/ by a present that existed lifetimes ago.
I'm seeing memories because I'm so far away and it doesn't make them
any
less
beautiful.
If what once was could be wrapped in glass
or starlight
and kept safe on a shelf,
dusted every Wednesday...I would wrap you up with me without a second thought..
You are precious like diamonds/ or sunlight/ or springtime// a snowmelt of importance that trickles from my past and routinely floods my future.
And if global warming is real/ and I know my fickle heart half as well as I think I do, you'll be disturbing my carefully crafted ecosystem for years and years. 07/17/2013 Author's Note: I wouldn't have it any other way.
