new skin

by Cassandra Leigh

ivory hide in the hot summer sun
is the fiber of trial by fire,
the unmaking of the virgin
in study for the coming
solar storm.

new skin, after the slough, a mighty
armor, quenched and queued
yet delicate in bloom.

summer season sanctuary
phoenix rises,
blazing brass of young blood,
teeth bared at the zenith, a
great and terrible beauty.

Colorful combination of humanity and animal. There's always great poetry in skin, armor, as you've so aptly conveyed here.
